NIGHT OF INFAMY

November 1989. TV3, Television Catalonia, issued "Life in a xip", an information and discussion presented by Joaquim Maria Puyal. That night, the topic was hypnosis. They shared the table of Dr. Ramón Sarró debate, a prominent psychiatrist who had in their curriculum have been a disciple of Freud and a professor of psychiatry at the School of Medicine, University of Barcelona for twenty years, Dr. Luis Linares de Mula, MD , biochemical and pharmaceutical parapsychology enthusiast with several publications to his credit, and Dr. José Mir Rocafort, psychologist, known by the name given to her fame as a mentalist, Professor Fassmer.

A moment of the debate, according to the dynamics of the program, asked Professor Fassmer to make a demonstration of hypnosis. The teacher conducted with five volunteers, the numbers of hypnosis that was in the theater and took a young lady what was apparently a hypnotic regression. After the demonstration, gave the floor to the public who requested it. A group of viewers who said they began to attack illusionist experiments that the teacher had just made Fassmer accusing him of being a phony. Organized an angry discussion between those who attacked and who defended the teacher. The professor watched the bustle in silence looking at their all with those eyes of hers that seemed to peer at the world from an unfathomable depth, enduring, without a gesture, the allegations sought to launch a doubt black spot on his sixty year career.

When the presenter thought the hubbub had lasted long enough, back to the table and asked the teacher if it meant something. Fassmer replied: "No, nothing," facing the audience, but his mind was not there. Nine accused have been delivered to Satan because he practiced hypnosis exercises with friends of his people, accused of fraud by those who resented his success in scenarios; accused of charlatan by those who resented his prestige as a hypnotherapist, Josep Rocafort Mir had endured for eighty years of solitude to which he had been convicted, since his birth, the uniqueness and excellence of his prodigious mind. The embarrassing spectacle of the evening closed with implacable consequence, a life bafo always bound to be the focus of Fame and on the cusp of infamy.
I can not say if the face, always enigmatic, of my father at that time reflected a deep sadness and a quiet resignation. I did not get that night, and I got twenty years later, the calm essential to coldly analyze the episode and its protagonists. That's why I waste the storage of memory among the things not worth remembering, and passed, in fact, twenty years without remembering. But then I had to write the biography, and I realized that, however painful that proves me relive it could not ignore that infamous episode. Not because it was something unusual and important in the life of Professor Fassmer, but because that was his last public appearance, the last time a ragged handful could afford to vilify in public, for a few minutes, an extraordinary man. When I put the video of the program to narrate the biography, I thought the time would allow me to see those scenes with something, at least, of serenity. Not so. My anger was still alive as an open sore. I had to swallow watching those fanatics gall to throw trash on my father and I had to keep swallowing it while writing the espisodio making efforts to contain the feelings and sensations that threatened the objectivity of my work. I came to an end with the firm decision not to recall those scenes anymore. This time, however, my resolve only lasted a few months.
As if someone or something had not had enough with the story of the episode in the biography, as if someone or something would have thought that was inconclusive and did not want to leave it, a few days ago I received a message my facebook made me relive the horror of that night stoking anger and helplessness that had me leave the room and take refuge behind the door, unable to bear what he was seeing and hearing. The message was written in Catalan. I'll post here, translated into Castilian, the most relevant parts. The words of a friend who wrote it and sent it to me enough to bring out the greed, lack of scruples, immorality, in short, who in 1989 and today, tried and still trying to turn television into a dump so they can wallow in it like the most vulnerable to being drawn to the contemplation of the most abject and enjoy the thrill of adrenaline secretions.
"... The reason that I lose a few minutes is to thank for the publication of his book. The I read in one go and do it again to absorb the full value of the character ... Let me extended information about what you say happened in the "Life in a xip" by Joaquim Maria Puyal. It is true what you say, but it started much earlier ... (program staff) went to local SEI, English Society of Conjuring, looking for magicians who want to participate in the program. As a gift, gave away a watch. I signed up with fellow (I can tell you the names) ... I asked what role or questions or if we should do to remain silent. The answer was no, we had to give "cane" Professor Fassmer, whatever he did, because I had to be a program "Alive." .. I said to criticize me for criticizing not seem fair. In short, I have no watch. .. Is the example that, by television, the audience is more important than character, and that those "magicians illusionists." most of whom knew nothing of his father, as long as appearing on TV are able to sell their dignity without thinking that never in life could reach the heights of performance reached by Professor Fassmer.
Maria that was an ambush by four mediocre amateur magic and low sensitivity of television ...
Antoni Casas
Of course, I responded immediately to the message of Antoni Homes thanking him for his generosity and courage and for permission to publish his words here. Also immediately, Mr. Casas gave me permission to do so. I think it goes without saying nothing. Only it again from here, thanks, on behalf of my father.

Hong Kong Male Waxing

Milenio 3 Iker Jimenez and honor the professor at the Cadena Ser Fassmer

At the time I came through the phone's voice Iker Jimenez family after having heard so many programs, but never speaking to me, I knew the interview would be different from how many I had done . The voice, the words of Iker transmit enthusiasm, warmth, empathy only comparable to that extraordinary communicator who was Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente. Their enthusiasm encourages empathy breaks barriers and inviting sincerity.

immediately remembered that interview that made my father the Catalan writer Josep M ª Espinás in 1989. Professor Fassmer was then 78 years and nearly 60 interviews on their backs. Had maintained until then, with the press a cordial relationship hostility. The journalists said they knew what they expected to hear, whether or not true, and deliberately played forgetfulness when the questions got too close to your privacy. Josep M ª Espinás, however, everything was different, so different that even today amazes me that José Mir Rocafort take off that day, the mask Fassmer, and talk on television, with quiet directness, his mother, of his childhood, of his countrymen. The personality and style of thorns are different from Iker Jiménez. What does, however, that both get interviewed disarm the prejudices of bringing him into the realm of confidence? Maybe that empathy is perceived sincere, impost, without a trace of hypocrisy?

Fermín Agustí, producer of the program, I had asked a selection of audio Fassmer teacher to illustrate the interview. I chose pieces that memorable program of "Identities" before knowing the course that would take questions. I could not have chosen better. The journey and outcome were essentially the same as my father lived that day twenty years ago.

Iker Jiménez Fassmer teacher spoke with surprising respect and admiration in a young researcher of the mystery. The researchers of his generation are shown, usually reluctant to look back to an era that considered contaminated by subjectivity and overcome thanks to the hard, icy scientist who has killed the magic. Iker asked with eager curiosity of a child, things the child was lonely and tortured José Mir Rocafort, seeking a way to understand the mentalist and hypnotist who wowed audiences inside and outside the theaters, with the pseudonym Fassmer. This trend to drill down to discover and know that, surely, goes his career, rebels clearly when he confesses that the photograph Iker Fassmer most impressed and is concerned is one in which the mind is reflected in a mirror with a look of such intensity that very few had dared to look into his eyes. Iker dares to look you in the mirror looking for the man hiding under the stage makeup.

I could not help thinking, sadly, how much would have enjoyed talking with Iker Jiménez Fassmer.

From here thanks to that brilliant community that entertains and stimulates our curiosity and equipment that, at dawn on Sunday, rounded out the interview glossing Fassmer figure unstinting praise. To all, our heartfelt thanks.

can hear the interview at the link on the left column.

What Is A Blueprint Of A Computer

Fassmer predicts the death of Colonel Delgado Chalbaud

Our friend, Enrique Esteguy, the magician Abracadabra, we forwarded a very interesting message to send just Dr. Kerdel-Vegas, about a strange incident in Caracas in November 1950.

Colonel Carlos Delgado Chalbaud, President, then, the military junta that ruled Venezuela, was kidnapped and killed on day 13, just days after speaking with Fassmer. Since that time, several sources said the president had warned Fassmer that he would be killed. Not everyone agrees, however, how came the warning. Counted, and even published in the press, various anecdotes. When that episode included in the biography, we opted for the version that had Deyka, then, wife Fassmer; version Fassmer not deny in 1982 while writing his memoirs.

If the version provided by the Dr. Kerdel-Vegas we had arrived on time, we would have included in the biography for readers to decide which one to credit. It did not, but at least we can offer both versions to the visitors of this blog.

First, the full copy of Henry Esteguy message, and immediately after the passage of Chapter XX of the biography, called Las Americas which has the episode. It would be interesting to get feedback on which version you seem more plausible.

Dear Mary:
I received this e-mail from a relative and I think you might be interested. We will have to add, perhaps, in the 2 nd edition of the book.
I send you, with affection, a kiss
Estéguy ABRACADABRA

Enrique and Carlos Delgado Chalbaud Fassmer

many years ago, Dr. Francisco (Paco) Scannone and his wife told me a strange story in connection with the hypnotist , seer and magician English, José Mir, alias "Fassmer", in relation to Carlos Delgado Chalbaud.

As memory is fragile, I wanted to confirm today what X and now remembered what I had copied:
were, a group of about thirty people (of which only two are left alive, X and another lady who unfortunately can not testify as suffering from Alzheimer's disease), guest house Dr. Alfredo Macho Gomez and his wife Carmen Zingg of males in the Paradise, and Alfredo as entertainment brought that night the magician Fassmer, very fashionable at the time, passing through Caracas (where he presented a daily basis act in the NATIONAL THEATRE) . Must have been on 3 November 1950.

Fassmer appeared in the living room, where guests gathered with a helper and covered eyes (and as his assistant) with a black cloth and began to give names, phone numbers, identification cards, passport numbers, place of birth, etc.. from the audience. X as the guests were very impressed, knowing that even the host had these details.

suddenly turned to the door of the room (which was behind the audience) and said that someone important in the country was entering at that moment, everyone turned and could see that in fact there was coming Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Delgado Chalbaud, then President of the Military Junta (which other members were Lt. COL. Marcos Perez Jimenez and Lt. COL. Luis Felipe LLOVERA PÁEZ), dressed in civilian clothes, who was a cousin-brother Alfredo on the maternal side.

Apparently Fassmer said then that the person who had come she was alone, identified as a Mercedes Benz (small) the vehicle he was driving, gave a correct number plate of the car and added: "Take care of yourself because you they will kill you. "

That fell among the attendees as a bucket of ice water, but Delgado Chalbaud took a joke and said it does not matter to be alone or with escorts when one arrives on time.

in any way the President's mood did not dispel the unpleasant environment, and the guests hurriedly took leave and before 12 pm the party was over.

On November 13 Paco Scannone called X from the Military Hospital where he worked, to tell who had just entered the body of Delgado Chalbaud foully murdered that morning.

Note: Dr. Kerdel-Vegas requested in your email not publish the name of your source and we have replaced by X.

FRAGMENT Americas, CHAPTER XX Fassmer, biography. The power of the will.

... the couple flew to Venezuela. They arrived in Caracas in early November 1950. They also found a turbulent political situation. The ruling military junta had overthrown in 1948 Romulo Gallegos, headed by Colonel Carlos Delgado Chalbaud. Fassmer did not, of course, no idea what was happening in the country, but after a success in the National Theater that stood out in the press in a way that today we would consider excessive, was required immediately by members of the government to receive them in consultation. Just took a couple of days to learn of the tensions that affected the government at the highest level. Delgado Chalbaud personally knew and his wife, there's no doubt, but the event gave rise to cabals and inventions that Fassmer never confirmed.

Delgado Chalbaud was kidnapped and murdered on 13 November. In his office he found a telegram had been sent Fassmer few hours before the kidnapping. In 1982, Fassmer accepted that his death had sensed feeling the symptoms that affected him in such cases, and had found very easily, the explanation for these symptoms. A few days before the assassination, had been in consultation with the general Rafael Urbina, who was blamed for the murder of Delgado Chalbaud, which in turn was killed while trying to flee. Fassmer thought his discomfort might be due to the fact that perceived stress waving Urbina General at the time. Could perceive, too, his intentions? What did the telegram? He warned "Delgado Chalbaud of what had caught talking to Urbina? Fassmer did not respond.

-not to stir, "said his daughter. You put it canceled a meeting because he had pain tummy. (In Catalan in the original)

Whatever the case, the name was attached to Fassmer Delgado Chalbaud and then join the Eloy Tarazona and Venezuela. In 1980, Oscar Yanez is mentioned in the book to transcribe the confession of Pedro Antonio Diaz, who claims to be the one who pulled the trigger on the gun that killed the president of the junta.

Note: On the message of Dr. Kerdel-Vegas it make some points:
First Fassmer was not a magician, was mental. Mentalism is a branch of illusionism and, because the illusion has been confused always with magic, it is likely that the confusion arises here. In Chapter XIX, called The swindlers terms are clarified by specifying the occupation of each. As Fassmer, never used magic, in fact, did not think had any magic effect other than to entrust him the beliefs of everyone.

Second, Fassmer was not sighted. In the dictionary of the Real Academia de la Lengua, the term, in its esoteric sense, appears with two meanings: p erson
which aims to guess the future or to clarify what is hidden and the person who has visions are supernatural or out what considered common. Throughout his career, Fassmer had to speak before the press with the stereotyped language used mentalists, futurists and other similar professionals since the beginning of the shows "psychic" in the late nineteenth century. In private, always expressed serious doubts about the phenomenon of precognition, the prophecies attributed to natural vision, the deductive ability or chance. There is a story in Chapter XX, Las Americas illustrating their position. As required in Havana for a journalist to say how many would graced with the first prize in the lottery, let Fassmer the first number that came to mind. The fact that it did not buy that number shows that Fassmer not think of any time that it was a premonition. When the number was, in effect, rewarded, Fassmer attributed it to chance.

No data goal in life Fassmer shows that knew or believed to be able to divine the future. The only evidence that it did, the form of anecdotes like the one we referred to Dr. Kerdel-Vegas. But how objective are the kinds of stories and how much post processing? They are claiming that thousands of predictions made Fassmer in their consultations and private meetings in which he acted. Do they really made predictions that were met or people, conditioned by hypnosis, which they believed?

Rocafort Jose Mir did have to suffer from the effects of childhood that made him a power to sense, somehow, the imminent death of a person (see Chapter IX, A faculty uncomfortable), but never believed that the phenomenon indicated that he could "see" the future. For many years trying to find a cause that power so strange and painful, but never got it. Finally accepted that that faculty, like others who do not normally share most eidetic memory, for example, belongs to the mysteries of the mind that science has not yet fully explain.

If everything above this mafestó Fassmer never said in any way that I had visions, we must conclude, without doubt, it was not sighted.

As for the paraprofessionals or Fassmer, it was his wife, Josephine of the Church, under the pseudonym Miss Deyka participated in the show until the separation of the two in 1954.

Fassmer and presented Deyka several times in Venezuela between 1950 and 1954. In Caracas in 1953 opened a nightclub, "La Cueva del Guacharo." Fassmer left the country in 1954 and went on a private visit in 58. At the end of the sixties began to Caracas to visit once a year, until 1977, to provide Mental Dynamics courses.

Groping Croweded Place

Haze mystery. (Excerpt from Chapter II).

... Twins Rocafort Mir came to this strange world with dysfunction in one place and at a time when a diagnosis could not be precise and there were ways to treat symptoms, the two were born destined to be registered as dead soon birth, but one of them managed to postpone the time for eighty-three years. Why? It is the instinct that prompts a newborn to nurse. It was what made the young Louis and his instinct was killed. When Joseph refused the breast of his mother, anyone could have inferred that the child does not want to live. Seemed to lack the natural urge to eat, seemed to fail as we all know as the survival instinct. And that saved him. Or was, indeed, the survival instinct that kept his lips tight to keep out even a drop of the substance that could kill? In this case, we would have to accept that his instinct had lacked information his brother, a very clear information that allowed him to resist an impulse so primal as hunger.
If nature has the answers to such questions, scientific thought has not yet managed to start. Only imagination can create all-knowing beings able to answer all questions. Who is not willing to seek answers in this way has to formulate hypotheses based on the observed phenomena. The first crucial event in the life of Joseph shows a phenomenon that was confirmed during his entire career: the child came into the world with an extraordinary will allow him to overcome the most adverse circumstances, a will so strong that get imposed on the will of others getting an unusual effectiveness in inducing hypnosis. For now, science has to limit itself to noting the existence of extraordinary powers, such as memory eidetic , for example, could not explain its nature. For Joseph, the explanations were most important. In his classes and lectures, Fassmer skimming passed by the theory, falling as soon as possible, to practice. Had chosen to use his extraordinary desire to convince students that they could develop their own to overcome, and use that power gave this gift-or, as preferred, allowed to reach the end of his life with a positive balance. Perhaps because he also used to keep searching for answers I could not find outside the scope of his imagination. But to get at the time, discarding the superfluous, mind discover what is vital and it focus all their attention, you have to spend a long time of learning, trial and error, the accumulation of knowledge and experience . Professor Fassmer , which some imagined as a being endowed with superhuman powers from crib, had to go through the same learning process before becoming a wise man that patients and students were sought for help in managing their lives. It was a steep learning curve that required her, from childhood, overcoming obstacles to most would be insurmountable.
